Scarborough Minor League Gains Charter Standard

The Scarborough & District Minor League has recently attained FA Charter Standard League Status, a kitemark for quality amongst grassroots leagues...

Among the benefits of achieving Charter Standard League status are that the league now has a clear development plan in place, together with an agreed support package with North Riding County FA.

The vision of the Charter Standard programme is to offer everybody in grassroots football a high quality, safe, enjoyable experience that is nationally recognised.

Through the hard work of the League Committee, the league will help to develop the key areas of The FA National Game Strategy at a local level including growth and retention, raising standards, better players and workforce development.

The biggest benefit will be to the players, as all teams playing within a Charter Standard League must commit to having an FA qualified coach.

A key area of the League Development Plan is to support the fantastic volunteer workforce we have in the Scarborough area. The league have made a financial commitment so grassroots coaches can access courses at a discounted rate.

The financial investment from the league will include 50% funding towards an FA Level 1 - including FA Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children qualifications.

Our Football Development Officer, Steve Dorey, said "This is a great move by the league and I’m delighted that the league have achieved this.

"The financial package they’ve offered for this season is brilliant, it’s a really good offer for the member clubs and the opportunity to access courses delivered in the area for a discounted rate is great way to support all the hardworking volunteers within the league.

"All the credit here needs to go the League Committee; Chairman Steve Matthews, Secretary Tony Groves and League Welfare Officer Ken Waters, they work tirelessly to provide a league for local junior players and this is a really positive step forwards for everybody involved."
