Winter is Coming - a Webinar from the Grounds Management Association

Tips on getting your pitches winter-proofed

The Grounds Management Association will be running a webinar on Thursday 10 December 2020 (7-8pm) titled ‘Winter is Coming’, which will consider decompaction, drainage and general repairs of winter sports pitches. 
This session will provide you with all the latest hints and tips to get your pitches winter-proofed, as well as helping you deal with the ever-present issues surrounding decompaction and drainage.

Expert speakers include Ian Mather-Brewster, Key Account Manager (ECB) with the Grounds & Natural Turf Improvement Programme, Julien Morris, member of the Grounds & Natural Turf Improvement Programme team, and GMA Consultant, Alex Vickers.

The webinar will look at the effects of lockdown, highlighting the importance of carrying out in-season maintenance and planning a renovation programme. It will also address the benefits of developing a deeper understanding of soils and drainage.

Topics to be covered include: 

• Playing season maintenance – hand forking, surface repairs, aeration, tractor mounted / pedestrian slitters and other maintenance tips 
• End of season renovation – scarification, de-compaction (linear deep tine) and top dressing 
• Drainage – primary drainage, pipe systems, secondary drainage, sand slits and gravel banding 
• The importance of maintenance systems and their cost implications.
