North Riding FA was pleased to present Jim Ferguson of Poppleton Juniors FC with this year’s FA and McDonald’s Grounds Team of the Year Award on Saturday 27 October.

Jim singlehandedly visits Poppleton Juniors a minimum of once a week to cut the grass and mark 10 pitches out so that 400 plus children can go out and enjoy their football.

His commitment is second to none; come rain or shine, Jim will be out on his tractor. He is determined to make the club’s pitches the best they can be, and his work ethic is beyond excellent.

Many North Riding FA cup finals are held at Poppleton, which demonstrates the quality of the pitches Jim helps to maintain. He is also the first to volunteer to help out on days when the club needs assistance for galas and cup finals.

All of Jim’s work is as a volunteer, which illustrates the type of man he is. He is a fantastic gentleman who would do anything to help others.
