FA Referee Course Update - May 2021

We are in the final stages of confirming our FA Referee Course schedule

Interest in our FA Referee Courses has increased significantly over recent months and we presently have over 130 expressions of interest. It is likely that we will have further demand over the coming months as we move back to some normality.

We’re delighted to confirm that we are in the final stages of confirming our FA Referee Course schedule, which is likely to be the offer of five FA Referee Courses commencing in late July and running through to October, with a maximum of 144 places available (*subject to government restrictions*) over the next 12 months at venues in the following areas:

Acklam Green Centre, Middlesbrough

University of York, North Yorkshire

Richmond School, North Yorkshire

Scarborough Sports Village, North Yorkshire

In order to ensure that we can accept those candidates onto one of our FA Referee Courses that plan on refereeing and showing the required commitment and expectations, we will be hosting some ‘Get Into Refereeing Zoom Workshops’ from the week commencing Monday 24 May 2021 as follows;

Monday 24 May 2021 @ 7pm
Meeting ID: 951 4046 9210
Passcode: 609905

Wednesday 26 May 2021 @ 7pm
Meeting ID:
934 2753 0319

Saturday 29 May 2021 @ 9am
Meeting ID:
934 2027 5301

Due to the demand for one of our FA Referee Courses, any prospective new referees who wish to enrol onto one of our forthcoming Courses must attend one of the above Get Into Refereeing online zoom workshops, which will last around one hour.

The workshops will cover the following key areas;

Overview of FA Referee Course & Key Requirements
Refereeing Opportunities

The Booking onto a Course Process (TBC)
Course Dates & Venues 2021
Key Speakers – Referees

All Under 18s must be accompanied online by a parent / guardian & ALL attendees must complete the following booking link confirming their attendance:

Only attendees who have attended one of our Get into Refereeing workshops will be eligible to book onto one of our FA Referee Courses due to the expected demand.  Full dates of our five arranged FA Referee Courses will be formally released around Friday, 4 June 2021 with the first course commencing on Thursday, 29 July.

Due to the demand for a place on one of our FA Referee Courses, we will be prioritising those candidates who reside within the North Riding County FA boundary initially to ensure a fair booking process.

Before we can allow candidates to book onto one of our FA Referee Courses, they must have completed a Learn The Laws Module and completed the appropriate Online Safeguarding Course with it registered on their own FAN record.

The online Learn the Laws Learning Module can be accessed at:

If you are under the age of 16, or a parent / guardian, you might find the information at the refereeing helpcentre useful when logging in. Please access it at:

The online Safeguarding Course can be accessed at:

14 & 15 year olds should complete the ‘Safeguarding for All’ course. People aged 16 and over should complete the ‘Safeguarding Children’ course; both available on the above link.

All candidates who plan to referee within youth football will also require to have an-in date FA DBS before we can register them as a referee – further information on this process will be sent later.
