FA Referee Course Update - May 2021

We are in the final stages of confirming our FA Referee Course schedule

Interest in our FA Referee Courses has increased significantly over recent months and we presently have over 130 expressions of interest. It is likely that we will have further demand over the coming months as we move back to some normality. 

We’re delighted to confirm that we are in the final stages of confirming our FA Referee Course schedule, which is likely to be the offer of five FA Referee Courses commencing in late July and running through to October, with a maximum of 144 places available (*subject to government restrictions*) over the next 12 months at venues in the following areas: 

Acklam Green Centre, Middlesbrough  

University of York, North Yorkshire

Richmond School, North Yorkshire  

Scarborough Sports Village, North Yorkshire 


In order to ensure that we can accept those candidates onto one of our FA Referee Courses that plan on refereeing and showing the required commitment and expectations, we will be hosting some ‘Get Into Refereeing Zoom Workshops’ from the week commencing Monday 24 May 2021 as follows;

Due to the demand for one of our FA Referee Courses, any prospective new referees who wish to enrol onto one of our forthcoming Courses must attend one of the above Get Into Refereeing online zoom workshops, which will last around one hour.

Only attendees who have attended one of our Get into Refereeing workshops will be eligible to book onto one of our FA Referee Courses due to the expected demand.  Full dates of our five arranged FA Referee Courses will be formally released around Friday, 4 June 2021 with the first course commencing on Thursday, 29 July. 

Due to the demand for a place on one of our FA Referee Courses, we will be prioritising those candidates who reside within the North Riding County FA boundary initially to ensure a fair booking process.

Before we can allow candidates to book onto one of our FA Referee Courses, they must have completed a Learn The Laws Module and completed the appropriate Online Safeguarding Course with it registered on their own FAN record.

14 & 15 year olds should complete the ‘Safeguarding for All’ course. People aged 16 and over should complete the ‘Safeguarding Children’ course; both available on the above link. 

FA DBS

All candidates who plan to referee within youth football will also require to have an-in date FA DBS before we can register them as a referee – further information on this process will be sent later.
