Fantastic Turnout at Pete Sturgess Coaching Event

North Riding FA was delighted to welcome The FA’s Pete Sturgess to the county on Tuesday 13 November for an England DNA coaching masterclass at Guisborough Town FC.

There was a great turnout at the event, with many coaches in the North Riding region benefitting from Pete’s knowledge and insight on Foundation Phase principles.

During the session, Pete explained the importance of players developing a connection with the ball; being able to manipulate and manoeuvre the ball in any direction, at varying speeds and by using any part of the foot or body.

Another key element of the Foundation Phase – ‘Stay on the Ball’ – was also discussed. Here, Pete talked about how players should be encouraged to stay on the ball for longer, regardless of the pressure from the opposition or from the lack of space available.

Pete’s talk was then followed by a practical coaching session with Guisborough Town Under-11s.

One attendee said: “This was a great event with some fresh ideas that I haven’t heard before as a coach. The knowledge gained from this event will really affect how I now coach moving forward.”
