North Riding Teams Up With Saint Catherine's

North Riding County FA has launched a yearlong partnership with Saint Catherine’s Hospice of Scarborough.

Normally characterized as testosterone fueled men steaming around a football pitch on a Sunday morning, local football from Middlesbrough to Scarborough to York will for the first-time team up with a charity partner for a full 12 months and play its part in promoting the work of Saint Catherine’s as well as helping raise much needed funding for their operation.

Saint Catherine’s provides care and support at home and in the hospice for adults with a terminal illness, and to their families, and friends. Its services allow patients in Whitby, Scarborough, Malton and Helmsley remain as active as possible and make most of every day.

The North Riding FA and Saint Catherine’s partnership was kicked off at a special launch event today (Monday 25 September) at North Riding HQ – Broughton Road, Stokesley, TS9 5NY.

Steven Wade, North Riding CFA Chief Executive, says, “The work St Catherine’s Hospice does is simply incredible and we are delighted to partner with them for the coming year and look forward to local football playing its part in helping where it can.

“Having an official charity partner is something new for us and we are all very excited to see just how the grassroots game can be of benefit to such a wonderful organisation."

Saint Catherine’s Hospice fundraiser Debbie Kay said: “We’re delighted to be chosen as North Riding FA’s charity of the year. Unfortunately, cancer affects everybody so to be able to promote the good work of Saint Catherine’s to people coming into football grounds it is great for the hospice.

“We offer 16 services across the North Yorkshire community and have to raise £6m a year to keep these services going so these partnerships are vital to keep our services free to those who need them.”
