Thirsk sees great success in Girls Footy Week

Thirsk Falcons had great success as they opened the doors as part of Girls Football Week.

As part of the FA’s ‘Girls Football Week’ and in partnership with North Yorkshire Soccer Academy, Falcons hosted a girls only football training session at TAC playing fields, free for all ages 6 years and up.

We had a fantastic response with over 20 girls of all ages joining us on the day.

After a short warm up followed by some skills and drills the girls finished off the session with an informal match.  Many of the girls said they were ‘buzzing’ afterwards and were really looking forward to the next session.

The successful launch will see the sessions continue each Saturday at TAC 10.30 – 11.30 am with a view to creating a Thirsk Falcons girls team to enter into one of the local leagues.

Thirsk mum Sara Till said “Layla plays football at school and one of the falcons teams already but was excited to join in with a girls only training session.  She loved it and can’t wait to come back! I think it will give all the girls a real confidence boost”

Wayne Sowden Club Chairman said  “The support for the new girls only training sessions was brilliant! As a club we are keen to ensure the club offers every opportunity to our young aspiring female footballers.  Women’s football is high profile with participation continuing to grow in grassroots as well as the professional game.”
