    •
Awarded by 1st4Sport Qualifications and developed in partnership with The Football Association, this course is the ‘first step’ along the coaching pathway and is a nationally recognised qualification providing you with an introduction to the organisation and delivery of safe and enjoyable coaching sessions.

Who is this course for?

This course is open to anyone wishing to develop their coaching skills through a recognised FA coaching qualification. Whilst applicable to all age groups, the FA Level 1 course is especially relevant to coaches, managers or volunteers involved in organising club or school teams with players aged between 5-16 years. Youth leaders or students in further education interested in coaching football will also find this an ideal course as a stepping stone to other vocationally related areas of football including administration, officiating and sports therapy.

What can I expect from the course?

33 hours in duration, managed by experienced and fully qualified FA Tutors, the course format typically includes a 3 hour introduction evening prior to the start of practical course delivery which is usually across two consecutive weekends ( 3 full days). The FA Level 1 course will include theoretical (classroom) and practical (coaching delivery) elements. In addition, you will also complete an FA Safeguarding Children and an Emergency First Aid workshop as part of the course, both of which are individually recognised and will provide you with a valid Safeguarding Children and Emergency First Aid certificate for 3 years.

Practical – Delivering your session

Once you’ve planned your session, you’ll need to be able to deliver it in a safe and effective way outside on the training ground. The FA tutor will demonstrate and deliver a number of practices, all of which will be contained within the ‘Introduction to Coaching’ manual in your CP. Don’t expect to be standing around getting cold!....you will get plenty of opportunity to play an active role in these practices with your course colleagues so appropriate footwear and clothing is a must! You will also have an opportunity to deliver a practice with the support of your colleagues in the group. The course tutor will be on hand throughout to give feedback individually and as a group to identify strengths and areas that require improvement.

Your Final Assessment

You’re almost there! Once your course tutor is satisfied you have completed all course tasks to the required standard, you will be given one of the practices contained within the ‘Introduction to Coaching’ handbook as your final assessment topic. You will know what your topic will be before the day of your final assessment – this always takes place on the last day of the course.
Please note; your final assessment will only be validated if you attended the course in full, have your CP completely up to date and have all other final assessment pre-requisites including; attendance at the FA Safeguarding Children and FA Emergency First Aid workshops (or proof of valid certificate if completed on a different course).
