A spokesperson for Barnardo's said " This is a fantastic opportunity for Barnardo's as a lot of our existing carers come from a volunteering background. With an opportunity to talk to the thousand of volunteers through the North Riding FA's various media channels we feel that it's a fantastic opportunity in our search for new potential carers."
Steven Wade the North Riding FA's County Development Manager said "The fit is perfect as Barnardo's key message is the safeguarding and welfare of children and this is also very important to the North Riding FA. We hope that we can learn from their best practises ensuring that we stay informed on such an essential part of grassroots football."
Barnardo’s believes that every child deserves the best start in life and the chance to fulfill their potential. We believe in the abused, the vulnerable, the forgotten and the neglected. We will support them, stand up for them and bring out the best in each and every child. We do this because we believe in children.
We are currently recruiting foster carers across Teesside and Yorkshire and many of our existing carers have come from a volunteering background. Working with children and young people in the community as football coaches, managers, referees and assistants, we feel that you may be equipped for the rewards and challenges of fostering. Fostering gives you the opportunity to use your skills and experience and get paid for helping some of the most vulnerable children to experience a stable family home.
There are still misconceptions about who can foster or adopt. We do not automatically exclude anyone from consideration on the grounds of upper age, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, disability or employment status – we assess all applications on their individual merits. At the moment, we are particularly looking for people who can care for sibling groups, Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) children, children who have been trafficked or exploited, disabled children and those with challenging behaviour and therapeutic needs.
