Tuesday 20th July

The Grangetown Boys Club had a tremendous 4-0 win over last years finalists North Ormesby Conservative Club an early onslaught by the Cons Club was dealt with by the Boys Club rock steady centre half Alan Shepherd and goalkeeper Graeme Willey. After blunting the Cons attack then weathering the monsoon conditions goals from Mike Wilson, Darren Morrison and two from Lee Seed gave the Boys Club a passage into the next round on Wednesday 28th July.

In the other match The Fountain won through 5-1 against South Bank Football CA despite having a scare going behind 1-0 by a goal from Steve Foster it could have been a different result had Anthony Reed scored instead of smacking a thundering shot against the cross bar. Fountain came back with two goals apiece from Louis Foster and man of the match for the winners Nathan Thompson. Jonathon Stott had a very good game for CA. However a fifth goal by Nathan Steel completed the scoring to give a flattering scoreline to The Fountain earning them a tie in the next round of the Ellis against Grangetown BC.

NO Conservative Club meet South Bank CA in the EC&C Cup on Monday 26th July.

Opening Fixtures

South Bank St Peters the 2009 Champions had to endure the bitter taste of defeat losing their grip on the Ellis Cup after a hard fought effort losing 3-1. Just before kick off their Player of the year and last years Ellis Cup Final George Hardwick Man of the Match goalkeeper Graeme Willey decided to play in the competition for Grangetown BC. With no other options available the former South Bank goalkeeper keeper Fifty year old Peter Truscott bravely donned the jersey and gloves and gave a good account for himself. After a bright start the Peters went ahead after 13 minutes through Anthony "Popeye" Gregory" shortly after Paul Millward equalised. Ricky Phillips missed a penalty for the Peters. Junior Masandi made it 2-1 to E&N and when Tom Phillips made it 3-1 the Peter's seemed to lose confidence as a team. Despite making three substitutions bringing on Lewis Simms, Jamie Bellamy and Carl Agar the usual Peter's spark was missing and the Eston & Normanby SC ran out worthy victors.

In the other tie White Rose overcame a spirited Acklam Electrics 3-0 with goals from Richard Taylor 2 (1 a penalty) and Matthew Mcqueenie to meet the much fancied Eston & Normanby in the next round on Wednesday 28th July. Adam Gel was voted man of the match.

Acklam Electrics go on to play South Bank St Peter on Monday 26th July in the Coast and Country Cup. While White Rose advance in the Ellis to play Eston & Normanby 28th July.
