GIRLS ELITE FOOTBALL PROGRAMME GETS GREEN LIGHT!

Scarborough based Centre of Excellence Director Gail Colling, is delighted to have received a glowing review from the National FA.

The Centre plays host to elite female footballers, selected as gifted & talented throughout the County of North Yorkshire. Gail who directs the Programme of Excellence, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the North Yorkshire Girls & shows how far the Centre has progressed in such a short time.”

The National FA monitors & assesses each Centre in the Country, to ensure standards of delivery, evaluation, development & progression are of the highest level.

The FA’s report has marked all aspects of the Centre as Good & Excelling in 3 categories. Comments from the report:
“An Excellent Centre of Excellence with the real focus on developing the player through appropriate practice.
Good balance of coach experiences, which is managed by Centre Director. Facilities used at York College are excellent.
It is evident that all staff have one clear aim – creating the best environment which will give the best opportunities for the players to develop their full potential.”

Gail Colling Centre Director is delighted to receive this outstanding review & assisted by all her team will continue to progress the Programme to offer each & every player the chance of fulfilling their potential & experiencing the female game at the highest levels.

This season the Centre has been busy embracing the girls in all aspects of player development including expressing themselves both on & off the field of play. Xmas time lent an ideal opportunity to encourage Social Skills & team bonding, with an exquisite restaurant setting at Ashfields Restaurant, York College.

All the girls were encouraged to communicate, socialise & work together in this elegant dining area. The occasion also offered the Centre the chance to develop the girls understanding of a healthy, balanced diet, as well as team challenges to become the coolest carol singers!

Most recently, to continue the player’s development, the Centre attended the Tesco Women’s Premier League cup Final between Everton & Leeds. The Centre provides a direct exit route to the female Premier League & the North Yorkshire girls went along to cheer on the ladies from Leeds, where 2 former Centres players are now applying their playing skills. The event once again proved a huge hit for the Programme with coaches, players & parents boarding the bus to unite as one!

This season the FA have offered all girls within the Centre an on line log booking system, where registered players can update information, record & monitor their sport & activities and reconcile their technical / tactical training sessions. The system fully inclusive of the England Women’s National teams, encourages our girls to submit information to further enhance their own player development plans. It assists the girls with IT communications, keeping them informed of all events & news within the Programme, as well as supporting their learning of healthy lifestyles & maximising athleticism. Once again the state of the art facilities at York College have enabled the girls to become directly involved with their individual plans.

The Centre competes in the North East & Yorkshire Regional Section of the Elite Centre of Excellence Programmes. If you would like any further information or details regarding the Centre or wish to nominate / recommend a player then please do not hesitate to contact Gail on 07870 170 251 or email gail@gailcolling.orangehome.co.uk .

England call-up for Boro Girls

Middlesbrough Girls’ Centre of Excellence continues to develop young talent feeding through to the England squads. February brought great news for Middlesbrough Girls' Centre of Excellence, as four of their U16 players were selected for some involvement in England's U15 and U17 training and playing camps. Forward Beth Mead has been selected to travel to Holland with Kay Cossington’s 18-strong squad. Anna Young has also received her first ever international call-up as a standby player for those fixtures.

Older girls Jess Round and Ellie Christon have also been placed on standby for the England U17 training camp taking place between 14th and 18th of February. Director Craig Nicholson reflected on the good news;

"It's magnificent that we have had another girl included in the international set-up. Anna has worked very hard over her years here and is very professional in the way she goes about her training and playing. She obviously made a good impression at the Talent ID Camp in October. As for the other 3, they are continuing to work very hard both at and away from the centre to continue their involvement with England and try and solidify their places in their respective age groups, and good luck to them because they all thoroughly deserve the reward".

North Yorkshire Girls’ Centre of Excellence are very pleased to announce their association with FUTURES THROUGH FOOTBALL.

Futures Through Football was established in 2005, and is a charitable organisation formed in memory of Ronald Wright. Ronnie spent most of his time running Youth Football Clubs offering opportunities to many, to fulfil and maximise their potential. Ronnie would ensure all aspects of the game were considered, often providing kit and equipment as well as his commitment and enthusiasm to the young players.

Tragically, Ronnie died in 2005 and his family decided to form a charity, Futures Through Football, in memory of Ronnie and all his valued work in football.

The aims of Futures Through Football are to:

Improve lives of underprivileged children through sport.
Provide opportunities.
Encourage & nurture talent.
This season, Futures Through Football has very kindly supplied the North Yorkshire Girls Centre of Excellence with brand new playing kits.

Assisting and supporting the girls in their quest to fulfil dreams and ambitions and encourage them to fully maximise their potential in the sport.

Gail Colling (Director of North Yorkshire Girls):
“This is a fabulous link to create with “Futures Through Football”, whose charity recognises and supports all areas of the game from grassroots players, to those players who have the potential to progress to the highest levels.

"Centres of excellence are an established pathway to England Youth squads and senior England Ladies Team and it is tremendous that Futures Through Football is helping the North Yorkshire Girls develop and reach their full potential in football”

Through the charities hard work & dedication, they are able to offer support to many young people across the counties. to enable this support to continue the charity embarks upon a variety of challenges to generate income in order to assist the development of sport participation for everyone.
